Cannabis Advocacy
The severities of both his illness and its treatment led Ethan to experiment with, and ultimately adopt, cannabis as a palliative—despite his doctors denying him prescriptions to medical marijuana. The relative scarcity of safe, controlled options for cancer patients and other sufferers of acute illnesses, compounded by the overwhelming misinformation—in a fast- growing legalized marketplace—about consumption, have spurred Ethan to go public with his story and advocate for common-sense use, regulation, and education of young people. His moderating POV, born out of personal experience and a concern for the public good, puts him at the rational center of an escalating dialogue in the US and internationally.
In 2022, Ethan partnered with Trulieve Cannabis as the global brand ambassador for Momenta. To celebrate 10 years in remission, Zohn ran the 2022 Boston Marathon while using Momenta products and raising funds for AKTIV Against Cancer, who studies the benefits of exercise and cancer.
Zohn’s personal experience in battling cancer and advocacy for smart drug policy reform, as well as his demonstrated concern for the public good and expertise in philanthropy puts him at the center of a powerful evolution in the industry. This inspired Zohn to launch Safe Roots Foundation, a non-profit organization that seeks to support and scale innovative teenage substance misuse prevention programs for adolescents.
Ethan is passionate about using both his personal experience and his professional expertise to be a megaphone for sharing honest and evidence-based information.
He shared his story with People Magazine and worked with CannabisMD.com as an advisor and content editor to create an original short film that documents how medical Cannabis helped him through his treatment. Be sure to check the video out HERE!
SAFE ROOTS FOUNDATION
What’s more, the mission to counter misleading narrative while targeting a critical, undeserved need led Ethan, with public-health expert and Grassroot Soccer cofounder Kirk Friedrich, to launch the Safe Roots Foundation in 2018. Part advocacy, part corporate social responsibility advisory, the innovative nonprofit works with partners in the cannabis industry to identify and invest in qualified teen drug-misuse prevention and awareness programs.
